Maps of Livingstone

Previously the capital of Zambia before it was moved to Lusaka, Livingstone is fast becoming a major player in the tourism stakes of the Victoria Falls.

Livingstone itself is being upgraded with new shopping complexes and with plenty of accommodation choices the traveler is well catered for.
Although Livingstone is a fairly safe town be careful walking around at night as there are very few streetlights.
Taxis are freely available for hire or hop on a mini bus to get to the Falls.

The Victoria Falls

To view the Falls, there is a network of walkways over the abyss and a steep track down to the base of the falls.

This World Heritage Site, is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience as the Zambezi river tears headlong over the 1.7km expanse down into the chasm 110 metres below it

Museums
The Livingstone Museum is Zambia's national museum tracing the history of man in Zambia

The Railway Museum features the restored Zambezi Saw Mills loco shed builidngs and traces the history of the railway in Zambia

The Victoria Falls Field Museum stands on an archaeological site - on display are stone tools used by our ancestors some 2.5 millions years ago.

Game Reserves
Running along a strip of riverine bush which stretches approx. 12 kms up river, the Zambezi National Park or Mosi O Tunya National Park contains giraffe, elephant, white rhino, buffalo, zebra, sable, eland, wildebeest as well as kafue lechwe.

Getting There

BY PLANE

Livingstone has its own international airport (LVI) and flights arrive daily.

BY BUS

The Euro-Bus travels between Lusaka and Livingstone - a journey of some 470 kms taking between 5 to 6 hours.

BY CAR
Rent a car and drive yourself.

For the international self driver, roads lead into Livingstone from Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe).

Temporary import permits can be purchased at the port of entry.

Zambian third party insurance is mandatory.

Shopping for Curios and Souvenirs
the Mukuni Crafts centre at the Falls has a huge array of curios from the largest wooden giraffe in Africa to beautiful batiks.

From intricate animal carvings in stone, wood, or the beautiful green malachite, masks, drums, marimbas, spoons, book ends, walking sticks, jewellery and much more

Be prepared to bargain your T-shirt, battery or even shoes.
